Would you like to know more about LGBTQI+ Department?
What do we do?
The ASTA LGBT+ department is an autonomous department of ASTA and operates with branches in both Kleve and Kamp-Lintfort. The main objective of the department is to create a supportive environment for LGBT+ identifying students within the university on both campuses. To create an environment in which to get together and share their experiences and to be a place to reach out for support. Both departments conduct their own bi-weekly meetings and normally host various events to mark important dates and different occasions throughout the semesters and to just foster a sense of community under normal circumstances. The department also offers non-professional personal consultations done by volunteering members with confidentiality provided and takes place during semester periods and can direct students in need of professional help to the relevant places as well.
Different problems are often associated with the differences in sexuality and identity. The LGBTQI+ AStA should provide all students with a contact person for questions and suggestions on the topics of sexual minorities and gender identities. In addition to sexual orientation, different gender identities and variations should be included. Moreover, the LGBTQI+ department supports Gay, Lesbian, Bi, Trans, Queer, Intersex, + students. Our main goal is inclusiveness and safety. We strive to make sure everyone is included and that you are allowed to live in an open, diverse and accepting environment. With this department, we want to create an open, appreciative and acceptive environment where students who identify as queer and their allies can interact with each other without fear of judgement. These spaces can be used to create new friendships, network and have a good time in a safe space where you can gain experience understanding and expressing your own sexual identity/orientation. Furthermore, we are the contact point for all LGBTQI+ related issues
Both departments can be reached by various means, via the official email address, the discord server and the social media accounts of both AStA and the AStA LGBT+ department.
My name is Regina Njoki and I am 21 years old. I am currently in the fifth semester and studying International Business Administration. My hobbies mainly include reading, there is nothing better than curling up with a good book and getting lost in your imagination and watching documentaries as they provide education on certain matters. I have been a part of this AStA since I first started studying at HSRW as I find the idea of inclusivity and diversity of most importance. We all should live together in tolerance.
Hi! My name is Nikolaj. I’m a 5th semester Bioengineering student from Serbia and since last December I’ve had the honor of being the head of the LGBT department in Kleve. As someone who is usually oriented towards natural sciences and engineering, chairing a department focused on human rights and support has been a new and interesting challenge, especially with the current COVID-19 situation making in-person meetings impossible. However, we still hold fun and engaging online meetings during lecture periods, so I hope you can join us!
