Postponement of the Student Body Elections
The Student Body Elections were postponed (old date: 3rd to the 7th of May 2021) to the 21st – 25th of June 2021.
According to § 4 (1) Onlinewahlverordnung and §19a (1) Wahlordnung der Studierendenschaft, electronic voting is only permitted if the voting system used complies with the current security standards of the Bundesamt für Sicherheit und Informationstechnik (BSI). Polyas GmbH, the service provider chosen for our elections, is the only company that was granted the necessary BSI security certificate to date.
The security certificate for online elections issued in 2016 was valid until March 9, 2021. According to the company’s own statement, the follow-up certification was supposed to be granted seamlessly. Contrary to this statement, the recertification did not take place on time and so Polyas, upon inquiry by the university, promised the completion of the recertification for the end of March.
Unfortunately, the company was not able to adhere to said promise and a timely issuance of the certificate by BSI before the start of our elections cannot be assured and it is currently very unlikely that the necessary BSI certificate will be issued in time for the Student Body Elections to be conducted electronically in accordance with the given rules.
To properly react to these circumstances and in order to be able to conduct rule-compliant and legally secure electronic elections, the Election Committee of the Student Parliament, in their resolution from April 17, 2021, recommends and asks the AStA to again postpone the Student Body Elections.
The AStA complies with that request and according to § 4 (1) Corona-Epidemie-Hochschulverordnung decided to postpone the Student Body Elections to the week of June 21 to June 25, 2021.
For any questions regarding the elections, do not hesitate to contact Adrian Kühn, Election Administrator of the Student Body, (email@example.com) or approach AStA directly (firstname.lastname@example.org). Accordingly, all candidates for the election of the FSRs and the Student Parliament will be informed about further steps.
