My name is Julia and I am the first head of a newly established sustainability
department in campus Kamp-Lintfort. I came from Saint Petersburg, Russia, to study
Information and Communication Design. A big part of my future career will be
dedicated to creating more sustainable design solutions.
The mission of our department is to make sure that Rhein-Waal University meets the
highest standards of the sustainable development, as well as to encourage student
body to be more sustainable in both work and life. We also want to support your
projects and ideas, so feel free to contact us if you have any – our department is
always open for your suggestions and for volunteering. I am convinced that even the
smallest contribution from each and everyone can make our world a better place to live in.
Francisco Javier Silva Deco
Dear students, my name is Francisco Javier Silva Deco, I am 26 years old, and I travelled from Spain to Kleve to study Sustainable Agriculture at our beloved HSRW, I am currently in my seventh semester. I have recently joined the AStA team as the head of our new sustainability department.
Sustainability is a crucial factor for the future of our communities, and now, we are working to make this continuous process of improvement more present than ever in our university. Sustainability is a broad perspective that aims to harmonize and find synergies between the different dimensions of our societies, usually categorized as economic, social, and environmental. Our department will mainly focus on our university, the student body and campus Kleve. Working on the relationships between them and creating spaces to rethink our resources and possibilities, always trying to make the best out of it.
This new department will be based on several pillars. First, we want to learn together and from each other; promoting events around sustainability, and bringing up ideas, and discussion topics. Furthermore, we want to push structural changes and transitions within our university, to forward our path to sustainability, for instance in terms of energy use, mobility, collaborations, social aspects or closing cycles to reduce our footprint. But the most important thing is that we want you to be part of it. Our main goal is to stimulate the culture around sustainability for our students. We want to be a platform for your ideas and a space for creative thinking in which you will be able to learn from other students and find a motivated network to make the initiatives, projects, and future that we dream of, become a reality.
It is an honor and a pleasure for us to support you. Let’s shape our new department together! We will be happy to hear your ideas, please contact us and be aware of our coming events.
